It is a good idea to make a check list of items that need to be done before each showing. Including spot cleaning, making sure everything is picked up, dishes are put away, etc. That way, whomever is at home when the call comes that a showing has been scheduled will not forget to do anything.
First impression goes a long way. As the buyers drive up and enters the house what they see and smell will add to their opinion of the property and can make the difference in your house selling or not.
